The Importance of Sport Nutrition

The Importance of Sport Nutrition

As summer winds down and the days get shorter, the thought of commuting to work can seem daunting for some. For some, however, the single biggest concern is the prospect of exercising in the sweltering heat of summer. This is especially a major concern for the brave souls traveling through Sea-Tac Airport at any given moment.

Long journey times, long lines, and long transit times aren’t exactly ideal, so I think we all know what happens next.

You get hungry

I know I do
Like I said, the summer months are particularly trying for exercising at least 30 minutes a day. I’m just too lazy to get off the couch in the summertime, and, you know, all that lazy boohoo millennial vibes floating around.
I have been thinking about getting a treadmill at home, but this is all expensive, so for now I’m just counting on the gym. But it’s hard to imagine doing the cardio and lifting without having some sort of form of nutritional support.

Yes, I said nutrition support.

We’re still talking about airplanes, so I really want to make sure that I’m adequately fueled while I’m at the gym, or during my commute to work. I’ve done the research, and there are definitely a few reasons why this is important. Before I get into the nitty-gritty of what I have tried, I want to mention something important.

I cannot stress how important it is to make sure that you are getting the right type of nutrition when you’re flying. Before I get into the nitty-gritty of what I have tried, I want to mention something important. I cannot stress how important it is to make sure that you are getting the right type of nutrition when you’re flying.

For instance, what you have access to at Sea-TAC Airport can be an issue. I don’t mean there is limited choice or anything like that, but the choices for food and drink aren’t always all that great, especially when you want something that is healthy.

I wouldn’t call myself a vegan or anything (so please don’t yell at me!), but when I’m flying I’m trying to watch my carb and sugar intake.

So with this in mind, I am a vegetarian, and because of this I cannot get grain-based foods (breads, potatoes, etc.) while I’m at the airport. So for me, I have made the switch to drinking some sort of protein drink or making sure I am getting protein.

I haven’t settled on a specific brand, but I’ve tried a few, and the one I use is GNC. They make these called Food Grade, and it’s pretty good stuff. I would recommend it, for sure.

However, this means that my snacks have to be snacks that aren’t filled with carbs. Instead, I’ve been packing some dried apricots, dates, and almonds with me. They’re good because they’re both sweet and healthy, and I haven’t found an easy way to take them through security.

If you’re a vegan or vegetarian and you’re flying in the summer months, I would highly recommend trying to take a little bit of protein with you.

Speaking of which, I’m going to give you a couple of examples of my travel experiences and how the nutrition has helped.

When I was flying to my brother’s wedding a couple of years ago, we were down to a couple of hours before take-off, so I wasn’t particularly worried. Then the chicken came.
